Jessica Andrews-Hanna is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Science, where she directs the Neuroscience of Emotion and Thought (NET) laboratory. Jessica is deeply committed to promoting STEM research, mentorship, and outreach, especially for women and traditionally under-represented students. She enjoys mentoring undergraduates at UA though the Psychology and Neuroscience Cognitive Science Honors programs, and other programs such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Consortium (UROC), the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), and Arizona’s Science, Engineering and Math Scholars (ASEMS). Jessica received her B.S. in Biology and Psychology from Duke University in 2003, her M.S. in Neuroscience from Washington University in St. Louis in 2006, and her PhD in Psychology from Harvard University in 2009. Her research centers on human thought and emotion, and its relevance to health and well-being. Given the high prevalence of depression and anxiety in the U.S., Jessica feels passionately about promoting scientific understanding of thought and emotion across the college campus and the broader community, and was inspired by her experiences leading workshops at UA’s College Academy for Parents on the power of imagination for low income and under-represented families. Jessica enjoys spending time with her family (her 3 year old daughter keeps her on her toes!) and exploring the beautiful trails around Tucson. She is delighted to work with the fantastic group of students forming WIMS!
